Emily Sutton, the Haw Riverkeeper will speak to us this evening about the work she does with the Haw River Assembly.

The Haw River Assembly is an environmental non-profit committed to protecting and improving the water quality of the Haw River watershed. The watershed encompasses 8 counties of streams and tributaries, the Haw River, and Jordan Lake. Her work as Riverkeeper is to understand the current health of the streams and identify sources of pollution impacting water quality. She is often crawling through briars and culverts in chest waders, stomping through streams to collect water samples above and below suspected sources of pollution. They then present these to county or state agencies to hold the polluters accountable. When this doesn't work, they work with Southern Environmental Law Center to uphold the laws laid out in the Clean Water Act.
She'll discuss the main threats to water quality in the Haw, and opportunities for involvement to help us protect the streams and rivers we love.
