About this event

It happens. Trust me, *I* know firsthand how a kayak can come off your car while going down the road. And so do many others.

“I haul mine in my pickup truck. The tie down strap came free and plopped onto the ground as soon as I pulled forward.” (massulikc, Reddit)

“… I let someone else attach a strap and didn’t check them. The Hobie popped out as I made a turn at a busy intersection and had to drag it out of traffic.) (No-Description7438, Reddit)

“… my kayak launched from the roof rack...and speared a Honda waiting to turn left. Hit it right up front on the engine compartment, right where you'd send a missile or torpedo.” (shiggyhardlust, Reddit)

“I have had it fall off my roof before. The reason was because I didn't tie the damn thing down. Lesson learned to not talk to people while doing a task.” (Firemanlouvier, Reddit)

Let’s face it, before we can enjoy kayaking on the water, we must get the kayak to the water!  And whether you strap it to your car top, trailer it behind you or haul it in your truck bed, there are Dos and Don’ts to help make the trip safe.

March 1st, CKC will have instructors demonstrating proper tie-down and transportation options and techniques.  You DO NOT have to be a CKC member to attend, although registration is required on the CKC Calendar.

  • We will review several methods for boat transportation
    1. Car trailering
    2. Roof rack options
    3. Hullivator
    4. Truck tops
    5. J-hooks
  • We will also demonstrate loading a boat
  • We will discuss tie down methods

This will be a fun workshop that will explore all of these questions and give you plenty of ideas on how to manage your boat transportation questions.
