About this event

A short 4 mile paddle to a river camping platform, spend the night and return the next morning. This will be a relaxing paddle and a learning experience. There will be a small fee of about $20 to cover the Platform Rental.

The Sans Souci ferry is one of the last of it’s kind. An old cable style ferry moving no more than two cars at a time across the Cashie River.  It’s a great place to launch a relaxing adventure.

This paddle trip is 2 days, great for anyone wanting to learn or is new to kayak camping. It is best suited for touring kayaks with sealed bulkheads and storage not overloading the deck. Rec boats with proper preparedness may be allowed at the organizer’s discretion.

We will launch at Noon from the boat ramp at the south Ferry Terminal, best to approach from the south and not depend on the ferry to bring you across from the north.  35.91114530406503, -76.81712213772322

Left (west) off the launch and 4 miles of paddling up the black water of the Cashie (Kuh-SHY)  River.

Lost Boat camping platform is well hidden in a small creek off the main river. This platform is surrounded by, and over top of, water.

Once we make camp, participants may choose to get in the boats again and paddle around a small lake just to the west.

We camp overnight, returning to the Sans Souci Ferry Boat ramp no later than noon Sunday.  You may wish to return home by way of the ferry to the north.

The attendance for this trip is by tent space on the platform.  I am limiting it to 6 tents. Your tent footprint should be no bigger than a 2 person tent.  You will sign-up per tent – not by person.  If you are  traveling single – sign up just yourself.  If you are traveling as a pair – sign up yourself and let (Richard) know you have 2 in your tent.

Participants are responsible for their own food and water, both input and output. You will need “wagbags” and plan to pack out your solid human waste. The platforms provide privies.

Participants are responsible for their own camping gear, tent camping only, the platforms do not support hammock camping.

The platforms do not support campfires, it’s a wooden platform over water in a swamp, do the math.
