About this event
Jim Butler will talk about 3 overnight river camping trips he has taken in the local area over the past couple of years. The rivers are Neuse River (2 nights), Black River (1 night) and Lumber River (1 night). He will explain everything you need to know to plan your own trip including put-in, take-out, and camping spots. He will present his reports from each trip so you can determine the best trip for your interests. If there is interest, Jim can also talk about some of the weeklong trips he has done in the US.
Introducing Jim - I have been paddling my entire life. I grew up in Appleton Wisconsin and have spent all my summers in Eagle River WI which is near Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. My dad taught me to paddle in the ‘60s in an old Alumacraft canoe which we still have. I own a number of canoes and fishing kayaks. I really enjoy long canoe trips. I have paddled the entire length of the Wisconsin River WI (430 miles over 3 weeks), all of the Tahquamenon River MI (89 miles), over 100 miles of the Neuse River (NC), over 100 miles of the Fox River (WI) and 139 miles of the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway (WI and MN). I lived in Singapore for 8 years and was a member of the Singapore American dragonboat team. I’m guessing I paddled close to 500 miles in 2024 and hope to double that in 2025.
